HRN published his first collection of humour writing 'Nage Bomb' in 1957 through his own publication house 'Chaathaka Prakashana'. 'Niranjana' (Kulakunda Shivarao), Nadig (SK Nadig, the cartoonist) and 'NA' (HR Nagesha Rao) were the regular contributors for the weekly magazine 'Chitragupta' (the magazine started by the politician of Kengal Hanumantiah's time HK Veeranna Gowda, later bought by PR Ramaiya, the proprietor of Tayinadu). The magazine was edited by MS Bharadwaj (who later joined Indian Information Service). This magazine carried out many experiments, first of their kind in Kannada journalism. For example novels or long stories written part by part each week in continuation by different authors, regular pages for the book reviews (the reviewers were P Lankesh, Sumatheendra Nadig, HRN, Ha Ma Nayak, LS Seshagiri Rao etc.), women section (contributed by HS Parvathi), Serialization of Kalidasa work (Kulamarva Balakrishna, Vienna settled English Journo at present) etc.
After the publication of 'Nage Bomb', 'Niranjana' writes a post card to HRN. Those days post cards were generously used by writers, journos and politicians. Veteran Journo K.Satyanarayana (former editor of Kannada Prabha) recollects YNK addressing HRN as 'Nage Bomb Nagesha Rao'.
